The Clippers have always been competing for the top spot in L.A., and they've got some pretty formidable competition in the Lakers. Things are looking good for the Clips, who share Staples Center with their same-city rivals.

In 1970, the L.A. Clippers joined the NBA as an expansion team. Back then they were known as the Buffalo Braves, and resided in New York. Aside from a handful of playoff appearances and a league MVP performance from Bob McAdoo, the Braves were generally unsuccessful. In 1978, the Franchise moved to San Diego, and changed its name to the Clippers. Despite bringing Bill Walton onboard, the Clippers struggled. They never made the playoffs in San Diego.
In 1984, the Clippers moved to Los Angeles, and experienced more disappointment. Not only that, but they played second fiddle to the Lakers, who were incredibly dominant at the time. In 1991, the franchise recorded its first winning season in 13 years, and advanced to the playoffs. They were eliminated in the first round by the Utah Jazz. They went back to the playoffs the next year, but lost in the first round again. They didn't see the playoffs again until 1997, where they were swept in the first round by the Jazz.
Today, the Clippers seem to be turning things around, and are one of the most talked about teams in the league. The team gained new-found energy when they drafted Blake Griffin in 2009. In 2011, they revamped their entire starting lineup by picking up MVP candidate Chris Paul, as well as Caron Butler and Chauncey Billups. This team, dubbed "Lob City" is an exciting turn for the Clippers who now rival the Lakers for the top spot in the city.
