The Portland Trail Blazers, or simply the Blazers, entered the NBA as an expansion team in 1970. They are Oregon's only member of the "Big Four" sports leagues. The team selected future MVP Bill Walton in 1974. In 1977, he led the team to their one and only championship. After suffering a foot injury the following season Walton was never quite the same. Although he never again returned to MVP form, he is loved by the Trail Blazers community, who attributes their one and only championship to his performance.
In 1983 the Blazers selected Clyde Drexler, who would serve as the leader of the team for the next 10 years, and lead them to 21 straight playoff appearances. In 1985, they acquired Terry Porter, one of the Blazers' all-time best point guards. Throughout the '80s the Blazers never made it out of the first round of the playoffs. But in 1990 and 1992, they reached the Finals with the help of Clyde Drexler. In both series though, the Blazers were denied; first by the Detroit Pistons, then by the Chicago Bulls.
Throughout the 2000s the Trail Blazers have always been playoff contenders. Lamarcus Aldridge is one of the most consistently productive players in the league, and aims to lead the Blazers to their second championship.
